Popeye's debut cartoon proved popular enough for the character to be given his own theatrical series, lasting from 1933-1957. For this series, Mae Questal, also the voice of Betty Boop, took over the role of Olive Oyl. Unlike the comic strip though, much of the humor in these cartoons comes from Olive being a damsel-in-distress.
